Hello everyone,

I am pleased to report the success of the Wyannie Malone Museum Heritage Days held at Hope Town, Abaco on March 2 & 3.  It was a fabulous couple of days and we want to thank everyone who helped put it all together and worked with us over those two very busy but rewarding days.

Many of our friends from this group were there pitching in to assist when needed.  This was especially important on the first day that consisted mainly with events involving the children of Hope Town.

It started with the Re-enactment of the 1785 Loyalist Landing:

followed by the dedication of the Memorial to Souls Lost off the Elbow Reef and the Dedication of the New Museum Complex.

During the afternoon it was time for Maypole Dancing and Children’s Games and Crafts.

In the evening we held the fabulous Heritage Buffet and Art Auction at the Hope Town Harbour Lodge attended by almost 100 people.  Unfortunately, after sunset the dew started to settle on the items for auction and we had to turn the event into a Silent Auction.  The Art items are now on view in the museum, where there are sheets that show the amounts bid and the remaining items will be auctioned off on Saturday March 12.  One item that we were able to auction was the last copy of the book, The Genealogy of Wyannie Malone.  We were so very pleased that this book went to the daughter of the authors, Mac & Jinny McAleer.

The second Day started with a boat and flag parade.

Followed by a day of fun with sculling lessons, crafts, food, raffles, the Beautiful Knees Contest and Vernon Malone showing how rope was made from sisal in the old days.

A wonderful time was had by all.  Thank you.  More photos to follow.
